Keeping SPI Alive in ’25! -- Welcome, SPI Gamers!
Update 4/7/25 -- 100 days and counting!!
It is Happening! The "SPI's Alive in 2025!" Convention! July 16-20 in Lancaster, Penn!
This is YOUR formal
invitation! Reserve your spot now! With the signups coming in, I can confirm almost ALL the QUADS are a go! (The Quad schedule below is not set in stone, but a working draft to set table space.)
For the Monsters so far: Terrible Swift Sword - CONFIRMED! Drive on Stalingrad - CONFIRMED! WAR IN EUROPE - CONFIRMED!
Above is my initial design for potential games. A quad fest will be offered all week, with match-ups and rounds that allow you to pursue one of the quad sets, or to jump ship to others if you choose! I will also have the single map full sized games, with structured matches for great series like:
And many multiplayer games, like:
Which games? I don’t know – YOU TELL ME! SPI Fest Entry Form
Above - a draft of a single day in the planning stages. Blue areas will change by day or session. NOTE: And a quarter to a third of the space will be open for open gaming from SPI’s deep library of games. You want to play a game? Bring it with you, set it up, and see if you can find an opponent! Why an SPI Convention? My goals:
The goal is to honor and
offer the various styles of games SPI offered – from the early single map
tactical games to the later grand strategic games. And … since we have a 25'x50' ballroom - separate from the Historicon gaming area - that means it is also a place where monsters dwell! Terrible Swift Sword? ![]() Wellington’s Victory? War in Europe?
Your (non-binding) entry tells me which games to offer! AND - reserves YOUR SPOT in the matches or at the monster table! SPI Fest Entry Form Making Plans
Like all battles, things can change. The ballroom layout could be completely different. But the plan is: - A quarter to a third of the space will be available for Open Gaming. (you bring it, you find an opponent, you play!) - A quarter to a third of the space for Organized Gaming - game fests for Quads and some one map games. (Structured start times. You sign in, I pair you with an opponent, you play. Repeat the process each round. ) - HALF the space for Monsters. (You sign up, you play.) But I strongly suggest you sign up in advance. I assume people will tag in and out of these games, to play other games - but no guarantee. Most monsters will be in progress all week. WHICH monsters, or which games? It depends on signups! Those are the games I want to put on! SPI Fest Entry Form About the event This is a dedicated SPI convention within the larger Historicon convention. www.historicon.org Registration for the convention will be with Historico for the Con tickets. Their entry fees are very reasonable. I suggest you buy a membership to reduce the costs but increase your later opportunities. However, the Con registration does not open until May 20th. Part of that is I have to tell them which games I am offering! But if you want to save a space for YOU at one of my tables for the quads, the monsters, or the multiplayer games - sign up with me now! SPI Fest Entry Form Location - Lancaster, PA Lancaster, PA is within easy range of three major cities and their airports: Philly (PHL) is next door (75 miles), Baltimore (BWI) very close (90 miles) and Newark NJ (EWR) an easy drive (150). NYC is less than 150 miles, which gives you JFK Airport (175 miles) as a choice. In the past,
I have flown into Harrisburg, PA - which has non-stop flights to 17 US
cities. It is less than 40 miles away. Bottom Line The opportunity is here.
But the key question is –
will you show up? See you in July? I hope so! Bring the games you want to play!
This website exists to provide enjoyment and support for players of any of the original SPI (Simulations Publications, Inc.) series of war and strategy games! Here you will find copies of the Errata, new scenarios, articles profiling the games, and discussions of play - plus invitations to join the SPI Opponent Finder, and ongoing tournaments! < -- See menu on Left for quick access Menus. | To the right are the new pages added recently. --> Below are added links with explanations
There's a WEALTH of information about SPI games on this site.
I am trying to get to a set of pages for every SPI game - like these: Terrible Swift Sword | Wellington's Victory | I would enjoy discussions of the games, with tactics you've tried and results you achieved. Here is an example of that with SPI's Terrible Swift Sword / GBACW series: I also have an opponent's wanted, all SPI games. Opponents Wanted (Sign Up Sheet) | Map of Opponents | 2022 SPI Napoleon Quads Fest! But there is much more to be done! However, this is my Christmas present to all of you. Explore the site, and let me know what you think. And good gaming! ----Russ
By the way - I'd appreciate any feedback you'd like to offer. Click here And - if you find links that don't work - or you are looking for something from SPI you can't find -- please send me a note -- here!
