2nd Edition Rules Rework: Eric Goldberg
Data:
A company-level simulation of the Market
Garden operation, from the paratroop drops to the evacuation across the Rhine at
Arnhem. The four maps detail the "corridor" and prove the point that it
really was a 'Bridge Too Far.' 2000 counters, four maps, and lots of combat.
Details:
A tactical company/troop level simulation of the WWII battles of Operation
Market Garden, which occurred Sept 17-26, 1944.
Scale:
1 hex = 600 meters. Each unit is a company or battery. 1 turn is 2 hours
realtime.
Comments:
The first notices were about the rules. When the
errata became the size of a normal game's rulebook, SPI re-wrote the
original rules and offered them to any owner of the game. Proof you owned the
original? They requested the cover of the original rules. Thus today you
will find first edition Flat Pack copies of HTTR with two rule books - one
second edition, and one missing a cover.
But for the players who pushed on, the game was a
reward. Balanced? Not necessarily. Neither was the original battle. But
detailed? Exciting? Oh yes.
